Andreas Hanson

- artistic advisor in arts education

Commencing 2010, the Swedish Chamber Orchestra embarks on a new collaboration with the young Swedish conductor Andreas Hanson. Andreas, who is already a frequent guest conductor with the orchestra, now steps into the role of artistic advisor for arts education.

Andreas Hanson graduated from the Royal School of Music in Stockholm and went on to study trumpet in New York in 1990 whilst maintaining conducting studies simultaneously. In 1992 he was awarded 1st prize in the Swedish Wind Conductor Competition and has subsequently conducted the Stockholm Symphonic Wind Orchestra.

As a student, Andreas Hanson conducted professional and amateur orchestras throughout Sweden and in 1995 he studied in London mainly with Sir Andrew Davis and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. He also attended the rehearsals at the Royal Opera House London following the work of Sir George Solti, Christoph von Dohnanyi and Danielle Gatti and in autumn 1995 he studied with Carlo Maria Giulini in Milano.

In 1999 he was awarded the Crusell prize for young Swedish conductors and in 2000 he was invited to conduct at the London Proms.

Among the orchestras that Andreas has conducted are the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Royal Court Ensemble and Malmö Symphony Orchestra.
